Rabbit in the moon

This season when there is the sign of the autumn wind when even the lingering summer heat is the evening at noon. Air dries, and the autumn when I see a night sky clearly is a season of the viewing the moon.

　Speaking of the moon, the picture that a rabbit makes rice cake occurs, but it is said that this comes from the following Buddhism narration. Sakra Deranam Indra changed a figure into an exhausted old man once and asked a rabbit, a fox, a monkey for food. A fox, the monkey looked for food and were able to give it, but the rabbit could get nothing and I said that I "ate me" last and jumped in fire. The Sakra Deranam Indra who felt pity for it moved the rabbit to the moon…….

　Tatsu Iwasawa of the glass writer finished a viewing the moon rabbit with such an admirable episode to a lovely ornament. I see the moon floating in the night sky in the sky in the ball of the pedestal. I enjoy it, and, with rabbits of glass looking up at the heavens, how will about the beautiful moon of this year far.


昼は残暑でも、夕方になると秋風の気配が漂うこの季節。空気が乾いて、夜空がくっきりと見える秋は、お月見のシーズンでもある。

　月と言えば、ウサギが餅をついている絵が思い浮かぶが、これは次のような仏教説話から来ているという。あるとき、帝釈天が疲れ果てた老人に姿を変え、ウサギ、キツネ、サルに食べ物を乞うた。キツネ、サルは食べ物を探してきて与えることができたが、ウサギは何も得ることができず、最後に「私を食べてください」と言って火の中に飛び込んだのだ。それを哀れんだ帝釈天はそのウサギを月に移した……。

　そんな健気なエピソードを持つ月見ウサギを、ガラス作家の岩沢達さんが愛らしい置物に仕上げた。台座の玉の中には夜空にぽっかりと浮かぶ月も見える。はるか天空を見上げるようなガラスのウサギたちと一緒に、今年の名月を愉しんではいかがだろう。
